PETER PAN

This is the story of the Boy Who Never Grew Up, translated into a pantomime script but retaining all the characters in J M Barrie’s book. The tale goes from the Darling house to NeverNeverLand and Captain Hook, the lost boys, the redskin village, the mermaid lagoon, the pirate ship and,of course, includes Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, Wendy, John and Michael. It weaves traditional pantomime nonsense, audience participation and a popular music version of this well-loved children’s story into a full-length pantomime production that will have your audience asking for more.

FAIRY STORYTELLER

“Into the redskin village camp, The children often used to tramp.
They’d play all day among the tents, and fight great battles with pretence.
Their friend was Princess Tiger Lily, who joined in games, however silly
But pirates also roamed the isle, and captured redskins once a while
Into the redskin camp they’d sneak, and grab the redskins with a shriek
Then carry them away for sport, to their ship which lay in port”

SCENE 4  REDSKIN VILLAGE

(Backcloth is the redskin village. A large tepee and a totem pole dominate the set.  Tom-tom drums play in the background. Great Big Little Panther is talking to Tiger Lily - children are playing around the totem pole - “here we go round the totem pole.......”)                 MUSIC

GBLP              Now my daughter, how are the preparations for the great Rain Dance Festival? Are they ready?

TIGER LILY  Yes, my father, great chief, mighty hunter and provider  leader of all the Sioux nations and all-round decent fellow

GBLP              Less of your lip, young lady, you’re not too old to be put on a buffalo backwards and dragged through a holly bush.

(grimaces at the thought) What about the rain dance?

TIGER LILY  It’s just about to start now. Take your place.

(They all put up umbrellas, and Redskins perform rain dance - at the end of it - no rain - all look to the sky)

GBLP              Well, That didn't work again. Let’s try that other chant.   (to audience) Umpah! umpah! -

OTHERS (and audience)       Stick it up your jumper!

REDSKIN 1   Great Chief, I have heard that in England, far far away. They have a sure way of making rain. They start a barbecue fire in their garden and soon it starts to rain. Guaranteed every time.

GBLP              That’s a good idea. We’ll try that tomorrow. Now where’s my medicine man?
